MT. PISGAH MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH OF MINEOLA
PURPOSE
We want to bring people to Jesus and membership into His family, help them to grow in
Christ-like maturity, and to equip them for their ministry in the church and mission in life, so
that they may magnify God.
CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as
our Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly,
most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to
strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its
prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to
contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the
relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our
children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the
work; to be just in our dealing, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment;
to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger, to abstain from the sale of, and use of,
intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our
Savior.
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another
in prayer, and to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in
feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for
reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible,
unite with some other church where we can carry out the Spirit of the covenant and the
principles of God’s Word.
STATEMENT OF BELIEFS
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God and it provides the basis
for our beliefs and faith. This church agrees with the doctrinal statement of the Baptist
Missionary Association of America. We band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers
to carry out the Great Commission to lost mankind. The two ordinances that Christ gave His
church are (1) believer’s baptism by immersion; and (2) the Lord’s Supper (we practice closed
communion). We believe that marriage is solely to be the union of a natural-born man at birth
and a natural-born woman at birth.
1. DOCTRINAL STATEMENT.
(a) We believe in the Trinity of God. (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
(b) We believe in the infallible and verible inspiration of the Bible.
(c) We believe in the hereditary and total depravity of man in his natural state involving
his fall in Adam.
(d) We believe in the Biblical account of creation.
(e) We believe in the personality of Satan.
(f) We believe in the virgin birth of the Deity of Jesus Christ.
(g) We believe in Jesus’ blood atonement for sinful man.
(h) We believe in Jesus’ bodily resurrection and ascension back to His Father. (i) We
believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
(j) We believe in salvation by grace through faith without any mixture of works.
(k) We believe that baptism by immersion in water is to be administered to believers as a
confession of their faith in Jesus and is a prerequisite to church membership and
participation in the Lord’s Supper.
(l) We believe the Lord’s Supper is a church ordinance to be administered to baptized
believers only and in a Scriptural church capacity.
(m) We believe in the eternal security of the believer.
(n) We believe in the establishment of a visible church by Jesus.
(o) We believe in World Missions according to the Great Commission which Jesus gave
His church.
(p) We believe in the perpetuity of Missionary Baptist Churches from the days of Jesus’
earthly ministry until His second coming.
(q) We believe in the right of Scriptural churches to associate together in the furthering
of the faith and to be held as equal units in their associated capacities, with equal
rights and privileges for all.
(r) We believe in the subjection of all scriptural associational assemblies and their
committees to the will of the churches, so that they shall forever remain as
servants of the churches originating them. (Please note: We are a part of the
Baptist Missionary Association of America, the Baptist Missionary Association
of Texas, and the Wood County Baptist Association.)
(s) We believe in the personal, bodily, and imminent return of Christ to earth. (t) We
believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead.
(u) We believe in the reality of Heaven involving divine assurance of eternal happiness
for the redeemed of God.
(v) We believe in the reality of Hell involving everlasting punishment for the wicked.
(w) We believe Human government was instituted by God to protect the innocent and
punish the guilty. It is separate from the church, though both church and state
exercise complementary ministries for the benefit of society.
(x) We believe in the pre-millennial return of Jesus to earth, after which He shall reign in
peace upon the earth for a thousand years.
(y) We believe the Bible to teach two resurrections; the first of the righteous at Jesus’
coming; and the second of the wicked dead at the close of the thousand-year reign.
